Volkswagen Golf R Cabrio Concept

The Volkswagen Auto Group is all about one-offs and concepts these days. Just yesterday, we were gushing over the A1 ClubSport Quattro...

Today, thankfully the sun is out in our corner of the World, we get to imagine what it could be like cruising around in not just any Golf R, but a convertible version of the Ultimate Golf.

Unveiled at Wörthersee, a huge VAG enthusiast show held every year in Wörthersee, Austria, the Golf R Cabrio made a splash alongside the recently launched GTI 35th anniversary and numerous other products from the Volkswagen family.

The Golf R features a turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder which is good for 270 PS (256hp in North America). Other than the bump in power, the other most anticipated aspect of the R is its fourth-generation Haldex 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. These elements combine to rocket the car to 100 km/h in less than 6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 250 km/h.

The R Cabrio's got a sporty interior with Motorsport shell seats draped in dark blue carbon leather with high-end Nappa leather in “Pure Grey”. The seatbacks painted piano black for a clean shinny look. Unique piping, carbon accents and sand-blasted aluminum door sill plates complete the finely crafted cabin.

No news on whether Volkswagen will build the car but we're willing to bet that they won't.
