Our intrepid spy photographer recently spotted this special-looking Lexus LS putting in some hot laps at the famed Nürburgring. The next “F” model we were expecting from Lexus was the GS F, which the automaker hinted at during the GS’ Pebble Beach debut, but it could still be possible that Lexus is simultaneously working on a flagship LS F. If it was, this racy looking LS would certainly fit the F-Sport bill.
Perhaps the most eye-catching feature of this special LS is its wide-body kit. This LS is sporting uber-manly flared wheel arches, a new front bumper, and what looks like carbon fiber side skirts similar to those on the IS F. That’s not the only carbon fiber Lexus’ ring-runner was sporting; both the roof and the trunk (including its large wedge-shaped spoiler) look to be made completely out of the lightweight composite material.
Up front is where this LS gets most interesting. This test mule sports a new front bumper that ditches the fog lights that would normally be found there and gains a massive lower air intake. Sitting on either corner of the air intake are what look like intercoolers. Directly above the lower air intake is the LS’ standard air inlet. The interesting thing about this one is its shark fin-like grille mesh pattern with only two openings in the center, likely for cooling or aerodynamic purposes. The hood on this LS is also unique, having two massive openings, not unlike the hood of Lexus’ halo LFA.
We suspect that this LS is putting down some serious power. Aside from potentially having forced induction, the LS is wearing wide rubber at all four corners on aftermarket BBS rims. The generous use of carbon fiber, aftermarket wheels, and its wide-body kit has us thinking we’re looking at a concept destined for SEMA or Japan’s big Tokyo Auto Salon aftermarket show. The SEMA show is this November, while Tokyo Auto Salon is coming up in January. Whether or not this radical LS previews a car that will actually see production, we have a good feeling we’ll see more of it sometime in the coming auto show season. What do you think? Is a Lexus LS F a good idea?
