Toyota is getting ready to show off six concepts at the Las Vegas Show, all of which are sure to put a smile on four-wheeling fanatics, Daytona 500 speed freaks, and beach bums alike. Plus, check out a Yaris like you’ve never seen it before. See what else is in store below.
Toyota Tacoma TRD T|X Baja Series Limited Edition Pickup
The Baja Series comes to Las Vegas after being unveiled in Texas earlier this year. Based on the standard Tacoma four-wheel drive model equipped with the existing TRD off-road package, the Baja Series turns up off-roading capability even more with several goodies and a ton of visual upgrades. Baja trucks come equipped with a 4.0-liter V-6 engine, along with either a six-speed manual (new for the 2012 Tacoma lineup) or a five-speed automatic. For increased suspension travel, the truck receives 60mm Bilstein race shocks and TRD-tuned coil springs up front. In back, the Baja truck uses 50 mm Bilstein dampers with a remote oil reservoir. Cosmetic upgrades include special 16-inch gunmetal wheels with BF Goodrich tires, a TRD-crafted cat-back exhaust system, and special Baja Series graphics splattered along the length of the pickup bed. The best part? Expect to see the Baja Series in showrooms in spring 2012.
Toyota Tundra Ultimate Motocross Truck
Why is this the ultimate motocross truck? Because DC Shoes’ motocross riders (and they should know) spilled their guts on everything they would want in a truck, and West Coast Customs made it happen. The Tundra Double Cab 4×4, equipped with a 5.7-liter V-8 and six-speed automatic, is transformed into a rough-rider, coated in a custom rough textured paint by Line-X. It also receives a suspension lift, courtesy of Camburg Racing, and shocks are provided by Fox Racing. Goodies include a roof rack that doubles as a viewing deck, fold-up side beds, and a suicide tailgate. For added convenience, a gas pump and water pressure washer are stashed under the bed, along with an air compressor. A winch and a hidden ramp also make loading and unloading bikes easy.
Oakley Surf Tacoma
Customized by Smithbuilt, this Taco is designed to be a sweet wave runner for all those toes-on-the-nose-loving beach bums. Talking mechanics, the Surf Taco wears a Flowmaster stainless steel exhaust pipe, and stands tall with an Icon stage 3 lift kit, Billet A top arms, and new leaf springs. Wheels are finished in a flat black and mounted to BF Goodrich tires. Inside, Wet Okole Hawaii embroidered seat covers decorate the cabin, while a Kicker sound system blasts music. Before enjoying a charburger and cold beverage (ice chest and grill are included), wash off all that salty sea water with an integrated shower system. Had enough sun for the day? Use the shade system that is equipped in the back of the roof rack system.
Toyota 2012 Yaris B-Spec Club Racer
Sports Car Magazine helped build this Yaris that grew a pair, which will race to qualify for the 2012 SCCA Nation Championship Runoffs with BMX legend Jamie Bestwick behind the wheel. Graphics slapped on the exterior pay homage to Toyota’s 1998 LeMans pole-winning GT-One race car, and the car rolls on Hoosier racing tires. Under the hood, Church Automotive Testing tunes a 1NZ-FE 1.5-liter VVT-i, while a Beta Motorsports cat-back exhaust comes out the back. Autopower industries installs an eight-point SCCA-spec roll cage, while OMP adds a fires system, race seat, harness and WRC steering wheel.
2012 Toyota Camry Daytona 500 Pace Car
The first non-GM car to pace the “Great American Race” will appear in the flesh before it leads the field at the start of the 54th running of the Daytona 500 in February. Based on the all-new 2012 Camry SE, the pace car wears a StopTech Big Brake kit, TRD custom stainless steel exhaust, and a Tein adjustable suspension. Inside, a roll cage, four-point Simpson racing seatbelts, and on-board fire extinguisher secure safety. Goodyear tires roll the 268-hp car on BBS wheels.
Long Beach Racers Tacoma
The Long Beach Racers (enthusiasts that race trucks in Baja) drew inspiration from the Tacoma Baja Series to create their own desert runner. The list of modifications include a TIG welded roll cage with a “low profile” rear cage that is signature to the Long Beach racers. The truck sits atop Bilstein 60mm race shocks, and Hella HID lights come on custom mounts on the bumper. CMI carbon-fiber skidplates and a custom wrap round out visual upgrades, while Mastercraft race seats, harnesses and window nets appear in side. A PCI Race Radio and intercom systems also helps this desert runner keep in touch with others.
