While the 2013 Dodge Viper will sadly be losing a bit of lunacy with its federally-mandated traction control, according to a new report, the new Viper will once again be getting another snarling V-10 engine under the hood — specifically a massive 8.7-liter V-10.

According to the Mopar-obsessed crew over at Allpar, an inside source at Chrysler reportedly told them that the 2013 Viper will be powered by an 8.7-liter V-10, making it the largest engine Chrysler has ever used in a production car. As many of you already know, the last Viper was powered by a slightly less-massive 8.4-liter V-10 that produced 600-hp and 560 lb-ft of torque.

The other rumored engine for the next-gen Viper was a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 with 500-plus-hp and 500-plus-lb-ft of torque. With so little set in stone on such a hotly anticipated ride, we’re sure the rumor mill will keep churning until the 2013 Viper is finally unveiled.

What do you think will be under the hood of the next Viper? More importantly, what do you want to see power the next Viper?
