2014 Cadillac ELR to Bow Next Year with Chevy Volt Powertrain

2009 Cadillac Converj Concept The Cadillac ELR was confirmed for production by GM with the release date remaining unclear, but now we have learned that the new Chevy Volt-based Cadillac will be introduced in 2013 as a 2014 model, hitting showrooms late in 2014.

Drivetrain details have also emerged for the ELR, which will use the Voltec extended-range setup sourced directly out of the Chevy Volt. The Voltec system and the Volt will receive some upgrades in 2014, one of which is a rumored longer travel distance on a single charge of the batteries. The ELR is based on the Converj concept (shown above) but will likely adopt a new style when the full production version is unveiled.

An early release of the 2014 OnStar vehicle list sparked rumors that the car would be coming soon, and now GM has been spurred into confirming the car as a real production model.

Only the Coupe version of the ELR has been confirmed, with more variants likely to be spawned after the car has entered production.

The introduction will likely be at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, although New York or Chicago are also both possible.
