Toyota Camry is “Most American” car

Chicago, Illinois – The Toyota Camry has taken the top spot as the most American-made car, according to Cars.com’s American Made Index. It is the third consecutive time the Camry has taken the top spot.

The index ranks the cars that are the most “American-made,” based on the percentage of parts made domestically, where they are assembled, and how many are sold to U.S. buyers. The study does not include vehicles assembled in Canada or Mexico.

The Camry was followed by the Honda Accord in second place and the Chevrolet Malibu in third.

“In today’s global economy, there’s not an easy way to determine just how American a car is,” said Patrick Olsen, editor-in-chief at Cars.com. “Most cars built in the U.S., for example, are assembled using at least some parts that come from somewhere else. Additionally, many U.S. automakers assemble vehicles in Canada and Mexico, while foreign automakers have opened plants on U.S. soil. Our index is another resource that car buyers can use to help guide their purchase decision.”

The top ten, in order, are the Toyota Camry (made in Georgetown, Kentucky and Lafayette, Indiana); Honda Accord (Marysville, Ohio and Lincoln, Alabama); Chevrolet Malibu (Kansas City, Kansas); Ford Explorer (Chicago, Illinois); Honda Odyssey (Lincoln, Alabama); Toyota Sienna (Princeton, Indiana); Jeep Wrangler (Toledo, Ohio); Chevrolet Traverse (Lansing, Michigan); Toyota Tundra (San Antonio, Texas); and GMC Acadia (Lansing, Michigan).
