2012 Chevrolet Sonic Configurator Goes Live

Production of the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic has already ramped up at Chevrolet factories, and the car should arrive at dealerships later this fall. Until then, Chevrolet has launched an online configurator allowing customers to specify the exact kind of Sonic they want.

As we have reported before, the 2012 Sonic sedan starts at $14,495 (after a $760 destination charge), while the hatchback commands $15,395. Both come standard with a 138-hp, 1.8-liter inline-four engine and a five-speed manual transmission; a six-speed automatic transmission can be added for $1070. Buyers who want more performance can opt for a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine that’s paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, a $700 option on LT and LTZ trims.

According to the configuration tool, the Sonic hatchback maxes out at $18,845. To do so requires opting for a Sonic LTZ with the 1.4-liter turbo engine, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a sunroof. The Sonic sedan can be upgraded to the tune of $17,995 with the same set of options.

Of course, buyers trying to keep monthly payments in check will find plenty of standard equipment on even the base LS trim: 10 airbags, 15-inch alloy wheels, OnStar, air conditioning, remote keyless entry, and an AM/FM radio with auxiliary audio input. The Sonic LT adds power windows, heated power mirrors, and a six-speaker sound system with a CD player; the LTZ trim adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Bluetooth and USB audio connectivity, heated front seats, cruise control, fog lights, and 17-inch wheels.
