Mishawaka, Indiana – The first MV-1 wheelchair mobility vehicle has rolled off the assembly line in Indiana. The Vehicle Production Group (VPG), which builds the MV-1, presented it to Marc Buoniconti, president of the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis and the Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis.
VPG said that the MV-1 is the first and only factory-built and assembled vehicle which meets or exceeds the vehicle guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The MV-1 is assembled by AM General in the plant where the Hummer H2 was produced. It features a manual or powered wheelchair and scooter ramp, wide side door opening, and accommodation for a passenger in a wheelchair plus up to five additional occupants. It is available in both consumer and fleet models to serve taxi, para-transit and personal use.
The MV-1 uses a custom-built chassis engineered by Roush and is powered by a Ford 4.6-litre V8 engine and four-speed automatic transmission.
In Canada, the MV-1 will be distributed by Motion Group of Companies.
