Believe it or not, the current-generation Ford Fiesta is getting old. The cute little subcompact first debuted in Europe in 2008 and it’s about time for an update. With Ford hard at work updating the Fiesta, Motor Trend caught a camouflaged tester that appeared to be wearing the same distinctive headlights as the all-new 2013 Ford Fusion.
The camouflaged Fiesta testing in the snow will likely wear Ford’s Global Design Language—an evolution of the Kinetic Design Language. The most obvious difference between this Fiesta and the current model can be found in the headlights. The angry-looking headlights look like they were ripped straight off of the new Fusion and slapped on the Fiesta, and they give the car a more aggressive appearance.
From the looks of it, the headlights aren’t the only visual cues the new Fiesta shares with the 2013 Fusion; the new Fiesta may also adopt a prominent six-point grille similar to the one on the new midsized sedan. The hood also appears to be revised with a more muscular look to it. What might not change are the LED driving lights; hidden behind the circular foglight-shaped opening in the camouflage, this Fiesta mule looks it keeps the previously North American market-only lights.
Aside from the front clip, it seems to be business as usual for the Fiesta. Though we don’t know what’s under the hood of this particular car, we’re expecting the new Fiesta to offer the new 1.0-liter EcoBoost I-3, though we likely won’t see that engine in the United States.
