Honda has revealed a “concept” of the forthcoming 2012 Honda CR-V,the first official view of the next generation of the exceptionally popular small SUV. In typical Honda fashion, this concept is essentially what we’ll see (likely with smaller wheels) when the fourth-generation CR-V goes on sale in the U.S. in the fourth quarter. “Long considered the benchmark for packaging and user-friendly design in the small SUV segment, the all-new CR-V will offer an added dimension of style, amazing interior versatility and Honda’s latest technologies for convenience and refinement,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda.

Honda claims the 2012 CR-V will feature a more fuel-efficient engine and reduced body weight. The all-new exterior styling is certainly more aggressive than the current model, with a more solid looking three-bar grille. The signature vertical tail lamps will remain, but with a “more three-dimensional style that wraps further into the design of the vehicle.” Along with all-new exterior styling, the 2012 Honda CR-V will feature a more spacious all-new interior and a lower cargo floor. Currently in the fifth year of its model cycle, the CR-V is sold globally in more than 160 countries. The U.S. CR-V is manufactured at the East Liberty Auto Plant in Ohio.
