We have more details about the new Toyota vehicle that is scheduled to arrive in US dealerships from October.
The Scion iQ is a micro subcompact car that is just 10ft long and yet manages to have room for four people. It includes six engineering innovations such as: a compact front mounted differential; a compact air conditioning unit; and a high mount steering rack. It also features a petrol engine that is housed beneath the floor to reduce rear overhang; while the slim-back front seats optimise leg room.
The engine itself is a 1.3litre, four-cylinder that produces 94hp and 89lb-ft of torque and is paired with a continuously variable transmission. It is rated as an ultra low emission vehicle and achieves an estimated 37mpg.
Safety is also key to the Scion iQ’s design as it comes with 11 standard airbags including the world’s first rear window airbag; anti-lock brakes; electronic brake-force distribution; brake assist; traction control; vehicle stability control; and smart stop technology brake override. There is also a Scion Drive Monitor that displays information including average mpg and an ECO-drive indicator to maximise fuel efficiency.
The manufacturer’s suggested retail price is $15,265.
