Nissan Asks Just $11,750 to Drive Away the New-For-2012 Versa Sedan

Nissan’s released pricing for its redesigned 2012 Versa subcompact sedan, and with a base price of $11,750, it should be in good shape to go head-to-head with the upcoming Chevrolet Sonic sedan, the already-on-sale Ford Fiesta sedan, and the all-new Hyundai Accent. In fact, with the death of the three-door Hyundai Accent, the Versa sedan is the least-expensive car on sale in America. We previewed the 2012 Versa during this year’s New York auto show—you can read our full coverage of it here—but the quick refresher version is as follows: The only engine is now a 109-hp 1.6-liter inline-4, and it replaces the outgoing Versa’s 122-hp 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. The new car is bigger than the last-gen, and the platform is lighter, too. With the continuously variable transmission, the Versa sedan is rated at 30 mpg city/38 highway.

The $11,750 Versa S comes with a five-speed stick, and is much better equipped than was the stripped-out price-leader version of the last gen car. For your money, you’ll still get air conditioning, an AM/FM/CD/aux audio system, and a six-way adjustable driver’s seat. Adding the CVT automatic tacks on another $1770; an intermediate SV trim level costs $15,320, and a fully loaded Versa SL tops the line at $16,320.

Not only hasn’t Nissan unveiled a production version of the new Versa hatch, but the company confirms that for the 2012 model year, last year’s five-door car will carry over. The new sedan should hit dealers in early August.
