Volvo has announced that its racing partner, Polestar Performance, is getting ready to launch factory-warrantied software tuning kits for those that want to turn up the performance on their select Volvo cars.
Available for 2008 and newer C30, C70, and S40 models equipped with the T5 engine, the software kit increases airflow into combustion chambers and advances spark timing, resulting in 23 more horses and an extra 29 lb-ft of torque. Volvo claims the power increases will not adversely affect overall fuel economy.
Since the Swedish automaker claims the 400-hp Polestar C30 Concept will never make it to production, the performance tuning kits may be the next best thing to building your own C30 hot hatch, increasing its stock 227 hp to 250 ponies.
The kits, which are covered under the original manufacturer warranty, will start trickling into Volvo retailers on November 14, with an MSRP of $1295 that includes installation. Additionally, expect a software package for 2008-2010 model years of the manual all wheel-drive V50 to become available in the coming months.
