The McLaren MP4-12C is without a doubt the current talk of the automotive industry. Highly touted for its performance and equally criticized for its lack of “exoticness”, McLaren has listened and responded at F1-like speeds.
The first cars are being delivered as you read these lines and already the MP4 has been revised. The changes are specifically designed to increase the MP4's emotional appeal when driven hard. In actuality, the improved throttle response and more aural exhaust note only come online when the car is in Track Mode.
This means that the “civil” McLaren's behaviour will remain unchanged in “Normal” mode, ensuring a very British-gentleman-like city driving experience.
Said modifications have been made to the car’s Intake Sound Generator. It limits the volume of underhood noise making its way into the cabin. This tube consists in a butterfly valve that is linked to the engine’s intake plenum. It now opens wider in Track mode, allowing for the car's 592hp V8 melody to better reach the occupants ears.
