The front end of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma has been redesigned, with a new grille, foglamps, headlights, and bumpers. Two tow hooks are now standard on all Tacoma models, and there are two new colors — Spruce Mica and Nautical Blue Metallic. The TRD Sport package is now offered with side mirrors that have integrated turn signal lamps, plus optional 18-inch chrome five-spoke wheels.
Big changes happen on the inside of the Tacoma, too: The updated interior includes a redesigned instrument panel with a new gauge cluster; redesigned center stack with updated heat/vent/air-conditioning controls; and new steering wheel on some models. New options include heavy-duty all-weather flooring on Access Cab and Double Cab models, waterproof fabric on some trucks, new standard and optional stereos, and navigation and Entune infotainment system offered with the Double Cab V-6.
Looking over the just-released technical specs, there are no immediate or major mechanical changes to the Tacoma. The base 2.7-liter four-cylinder carries over with the same 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft as the 2011 model, as does the 4.0-liter V-6, which likewise is rated at the identical 236 horsepower and 266 lb-ft.
