While announcing the world premiere of the 2012 ML 63 AMG next month at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz released a few details about the beastly SUV's powertrain.
The naturally-aspirated 6.2L V8 of the current model will be replaced with a new 5.5L twin-turbo V8 similar to the one found in the CLS 63 AMG sedan.
Output numbers haven't been disclosed yet, but it's safe to expect somewhere close to 525 horsepower and 516 pounds-feet of torque. The optional AMG package will reportedly boost the direct-injected V8 to 557 hp and 590 lb-ft.
In any case, a 7-speed autobox will distribute power to all four wheels through the brand's 4MATIC system.
Deliveries will begin next spring.
