The Ford F-150 SVT Raptor keeps improving and the 2012 model is no exception, offering even more capability and functionality to off-road thrill seekers.
A 6.2-litre V8 engine, which produces 411 horsepower and 434 lb-ft of torque, makes it the most powerful half-ton pickup on the market. However, it's what you don't see that turns the Raptor into a real trail-shredding monster.
The new Torsen front differential significantly increases front-end grip and allows the truck to pull itself over obstacles and up steep grades, even when traction is split between the front tires. An internal helical gearset is used to help force torque from the wheel that is losing traction to the wheel with traction.
Meanwhile, a new class-exclusive off-road front camera provides a unique view of the trail ahead. Activated through the 4.2-inch LCD screen, the system uses the 8-inch navigation display and helps owners see what’s directly in front of the vehicle, even when their view from the driver’s seat might be blocked. It is designed to aid at speeds of less than 15 mph (24 km/h).
Elsewhere, ventilated seats and Euroflange wheels (the latter featuring weights on the inside to better protect from off-road debris and obstacles) are some of the must-have options for off-road enthusiasts.
Pricing has yet to be announced by Ford of Canada, but expect something close to the outgoing model's $54,799 MSRP.
