Mazda has launched the Mazda RX-8 Spirit R series, a final special edition version of the rotary-engined sports car before production of the model ends in June 2012.
Standard features across the Mazda RX-8 Spirit R series line-up include Spirit R badges (a name that was given to the final limited-edition Mazda RX-7), red brake calipers, a Piano black transmission tunnel and the choice of three exterior coulours - Aluminium Metallic, Sparkling Black Mica and Crystal White Pearl Mica.
Models fitted with a six-speed manual transmission get specially made Spirit R Recaro bucket seats and 19-inch bronze alloys.
Equipment for six-speed automatic cars includes black leather seats with red stitching, a theme which continues on the steering wheel, handbrake and centre console lid. Larger brakes, sports suspension and 18-inch gun-metal grey alloys also feature.
Available in Japan only, the Mazda RX-8 Spirit R will be on sale from November 24, with expected sales estimated at 1000 units.
Mazda CEO Takashi Yamanouchi said, “Although RX-8 production is ending, the rotary engine will always represent the spirit of Mazda, and Mazda remains committed to its ongoing development."
