The upcoming Tokyo Motor Show will be the setting for Mazda to unveil its latest concept car – the Mazda Takeri midsize saloon car.
The Takeri will feature the new Mazda SKYACTIV-D clean diesel engine, as well as Mazda’s idling stop system i-stop and a regenerative braking system that converts kinetic energy to electricity during deceleration and then uses it to power the vehicle’s electric equipment.
According to Mazda, the regenerative braking system is step two of its building block strategy – step one is the idling stop technology; and step three is electric drive technology.
Also debuting at the Tokyo Motor Show will be the Mazda CX-5, the first of its next generation products that will feature the complete range of SKYACTIV technology, including a powertrain, body and chassis.
It will also be the first passenger vehicle in Japan that combines a clean diesel engine with an idling stop system. It achieves maximum torque of 420Nm and the best fuel economy of any SUV in the Japanese market at 43.8mpg.
Mazda’s plan is to progressively introduce clean diesel vehicles to the Japanese market, beginning with the Mazda CX-5 crossover in spring 2012.
