Mercedes’ beefy G-Class off-roader gets a freshening-up for 2013 with restyled interior, new lights and mirrors, and new standard safety features including blind spot assist, Parktronic and the Distronic Plus adaptive cruise control system.
While the design has been virtually unchanged since its 1979 debut, 2013 will bring discreet exterior changes. The instrument cluster and centre console have been completely redesigned with new control and exclusive trim elements.
A standard COMAND infotainment system features mbrace2 (set to be standard on all MY2013 vehicles), which offers owners open Internet access and special versions of popular apps including Facebook, Yelp and Google Local Search designed specifically for in-vehicle use, as well as remote access to Driving Journal, Travel Zones and Valet Minder, or to run a vehicle health check.
Available engines include a 5.5L V8 gas engine in the G550 with 388 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque mated to a 7-speed automatic. New to the range is the 2013 G63 AMG with an 8-cylinder bi-turbo engine and standard start/stop feature, as well as AMG grille, distinctive bumpers, red brake calipers and, here for the first time, 20” wheels.
