You know that green car technology has made a serious breakthrough when even sports car manufacturers are making it their focus.
That’s the case with Porsche – after Wolfgang Hanz, a member of the executive board of research and development at Porsche, declared that the company would be “focusing on the deployment of plug-in hybrid technology in production.”
The move comes after Porsche began taking orders for the Porsche 918 Spyder plug-in hybrid (pictured) back in March 2011 – even as production development proceeded. Indeed the first customer cars will not arrive in the USA until near the end of 2013.
Porsche has already successfully launched two hybrid models on to the market – in the form of the Porsche Panamera and the Porsche Cayenne. Sales figures for the Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid were actually twice as high as the figures of all its competitors in this market segment.
Now Porsche is said to be working on solutions for higher efficiency and better performance from both the combustion engine and electric motor.
