The 2015 Ford Mustang has enthusiasts bursting with anticipation about what’s in store for the model’s next generation. That anticipation is so great that some just can’t wait until 2014 to see Ford’s next pony car. If you’re among those anxious individuals, these renderings might be enough to tide you over, as they show what a next-gen Mustang could look like.
In this interpretation of the upcoming car, the Ford Fusion and Evos Concept influence is apparent in the front end, though the body still maintains a few of the current car’s retro-inspired curves. As we noted previously, conflicting reports have surfaced regarding what Ford will do with the next-gen car’s styling. Some have suggested the automaker should ditch the retro theme completely, instead looking to the Aston-Martin like looks of the Evos Concept for inspiration, while others say the 2015 Mustang will simply evolve the retro styling. These renderings represent one possible direction Ford could go with the Mustang’s styling, and looks to be an elegant solution to the retro-versus-Evos design debate.
Though the 2015 Mustang’s design strategy is still unknown, we do know a few things about the rear-drive two-door. Most significantly, the live axle will be replaced by an independent rear suspension setup. As for engines, Ford could carry over its 3.7-liter V-6 and 5.0-liter V-8 with a few improvements. But other reports indicate the company could downsize the Mustang’s powertrain lineup, adding EcoBoost I-4s and V-6s.
