Toyota GT 86 Hits Track with Lexus IS-F 5.0-liter V-8 Power

V8-Toyota-GT-86-Drifting There are some cars that aren’t simply about outright power, but rather balance, and the subjective driving experience. Much like the Mazda MX-5 Miata, the Toyota GT 86/Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ have been billed as such, and are packing “only” a naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter boxer four-cylinder underhood. That’s fine for mildly spirited driving on mountain roads or on a track. But what about if you’re looking for pure, unbridled, tire-smoking hoonage? Well, 151 lb-ft of torque clearly won’t cut it. But fret not, Toyota is a step ahead of you.

What we have here is a modified Toyota GT 86 with the boxer four unceremoniously plucked from under its hood, and replaced with a comparably gargantuan 5.0-liter V-8 from the Lexus IS-F. Even in street trim, the 2UR-GSE engine produces an ample 416 hp and 371 lb-ft of torque, easily doubling the car’s stock output. And from listening to the uncorked scream from this drifter, you can bet it’s likely producing considerably more than that.

Who’s the lucky guy piloting this mouth-watering creation? It’s well-known Japanese driver Manabu “Max” Orido, best known for his participation in the Super GT series. We’re hoping this beast won’t be confined to Japan only, and might make its way stateside for some exhibition runs.
