Torrance, California – A specially-made Lexus LS600h hybrid Landaulet will serve as the official royal wedding car when Prince Albert II of Monaco marries Charlene Wittstock in July. The car features a transparent, one-piece polycarbonate roof.

The conversion, which took over 2,000 hours to complete, was done by Belgian coachbuilders Carat Duchatelet in collaboration with Lexus engineers in Brussels. The conversion included Kevlar and carbon fibre technology to reinforce the body shell, which required “cooking” the components onto the bare chassis in a special oven. The vehicle had to be completely stripped of its mechanical parts, electronic components, and interior features and upholstery.
The demountable roof was built in France by a supplier to the aerospace industry and is a large, single piece with no reinforcements or pillars. The polycarbonate shell is eight millimetres thick and weighs only 26 kilograms.
The car will be used by the royal couple to tour the Principality after the wedding ceremony. It will later be displayed to the public at the Oceanographic Museum.
