Toyota has redesigned the three- and five-door Yaris hatchbacks for 2012 and it’s safe to say that the Ford Fiesta still has the subcompact style niche cornered. Even so, if the Yaris can win over new customers with its improved dynamics and fresher interior, maybe the Fiesta has something to worry about. While the biggest design differences come with the new 2012 Yaris SE model, current Yaris drivers may see changes Toyota made to the more basic transportation models, too. Let’s have a look.
The 2011 Yaris’ vertically aligned headlights have been dropped for a design that connects to the front grille. A more sculpted front fascia is new, as are new wheel cover and wheel designs.
Focus on the new five-door 2012 Yaris SE and you’ll see a more angular rear side window and a sharper character line running through the door handles. New taillights remind us of the now-gone Kia Rio five-door hatchback, but the neat black trim on the rear bumper and the tall reflector lights are all Toyota. A bar of chrome trim under the Toyota badge is new, and the license plate has been pushed up between the taillights.
The 2012 Yaris interior appears completely new, with a speedometer moved back in front of the steering wheel, from the top of the center console. A more modern center stack is a positive touch, but it’s really the relocated gauges that have the biggest impact.

Last time, the 2012 Infiniti FX received mixed reviews.
“The new grille looks cleaner and the rest of the front fascia makes it look more muscular, yet still elegant,” said Pac. “I understand that Infiniti’s design might not be for everyone, but for me it looks much better than all of its Japanese competition.”
Notalwaysbeengood didn’t agree, commenting that the pre-refresh Infiniti FX seemed sleeker: “I think the last version is better looking by a long shot.”
