The 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Altitude has debuted to journalists in Santa Monica in advance of an ad campaign featuring Chris Paul and USA Basketball. The Wrangler Unlimited Altitude joins the Altitude special edition models of its Compass, Grand Cherokee, and Patriot SUVs.
Jeep first showed the blacked-out Grand Cherokee concept in January and last month announced the Altitude special edition Jeeps would reach showrooms in May. Like the other Altitude special edition Jeeps, the Wrangler Unlimited’s updates are only cosmetic, meaning it retains the 2012 Wrangler’s 3.6-liter V-6 producing 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Altitude will be available in four paint choices: Deep Cherry Red, Black, Bright White, and Bright Silver Metallic.
The Wrangler Unlimited’s removable hardtop trades its grained black plastic for a smooth body-colored painted top. Front and rear bumpers now have body-color paint on their center sections. The exterior also gains a Mopar black fuel cover, matte black Jeep grille badge, and black hood graphic. Black 18-inch five-spoke alloys with polished wheel rings are unique to the Wrangler Unlimited Altitude.
Red stitching contrasts with the all-black interior and is found on the leather seats, door panels, center armrest, berber floor mats, and steering wheel. Jeep added piano black trim to the vent rings, steering wheel spokes, door pulls, and passenger-side grab handle.
The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Altitude’s joint ad campaign with USA Basketball will debut during the NBA Finals on April 28. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Altitude will start at $34,640 (including $900 destination charge) and will be limited to 4500 units when it goes on sale in May.
