The 2012 BMW M6 is revealing more and more sheet metal as its anticipated early-2012 debut draws closer. We caught the convertible version of the M6 last month, wearing heavy camouflage from front to back. Now, our spy photographer has captured the M6 coupe wearing much less camo.
The front of the car is now mostly uncovered, showing off that familiar 6 Series face. Everything in front looks pretty much the same as on the lesser 6 Series models, with the exception of a unique front valence – which, oddly enough, was less covered on the convertible model we saw last month. In typical M car fashion, the brakes on this test mule are of considerable size, with large drilled rotors in the front accompanied by appropriately large brake calipers.
When we get to the rear, a few differences between the M6 and the standard 6 Series become apparent. The quad-tipped tail pipes are still present along with the slightly different rear bumper design. But the one feature that stands out is the placement of the rear reflector strips. Normally sitting lower on the rear bumper of a standard 6 Series model, they’re placed right beneath the taillights on this test mule.
Although a few more details are now apparent, aesthetically-speaking, the difference between the BMW M6 and regular 6-Series remains relatively subtle. With not much more camo to lose, we don’t expect to see any more cosmetic surprises from the M6. As long as it comes with the M5’s 552-hp twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 beneath that modest exterior, we won’t mind a bit.
