Several General Motors trucks and SUVs are the subject of new recalls issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The 2011 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon are being recalled because their transmission shift indicators may be faulty. The 2011 Cadillac Escalade; Chevrolet Silverado, Suburban, and Tahoe; and GMC Yukon and Sierra are all being recalled to check for loose bolts in the steering gear.

The Problem: A clip that holds the automatic transmission shift cable in place may not hold the cable correctly. In this case, the transmission position displayed in the “PRNDL” display may not reflect the transmission’s actual gear selection. This means, for instance, a driver may mistakenly leave the vehicle in reverse or neutral instead of park, allowing it to roll away unexpectedly.
The Fix: General Motors plans to install a new clip in affected vehicles for free. The recall will begin around July 19.

The Problem: A number of vehicles built on the General Motors GTM900 platform may have steering bolts that were incorrectly tightened. Because the bolts weren’t tightened properly during vehicle assembly, they could allow steering components to separate while driving, causing a loss of vehicle control.
The Fix: General Motors will inspect affected vehicles to ensure that bolts are adequately tightened. The recall work should begin July 13.
