After winning an invitation to tender that made the NV 200 New York City’s official taxi, Nissan continues to take the Big Apple by storm – this time unleashing the LEAF.
The New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission and the Japanese automaker have announced that the Nissan LEAF EV will be zipping around New York’s streets for a one-year pilot project.
Nissan will hand out six LEAFs for free to any owner-drivers interested in participating. While obviously a great way to promote the car, there is in fact more to the initiative.
Nissan is looking to gather valuable information to better understand how an electric vehicle like the LEAF will fare in the very special taxi industry – and in a major metropolitan centre to boot.
