The Volvo XC90 got a refresh for the 2013 model year, with the Swedish automaker boasting that it’s the most significant update to the SUV since it launched a decade ago.
The updated XC90 now has color-matched front and rear bumpers, side skirts, and wheel arches that gives it a sleeker appearance on the outside. New LED daytime running lights are now standard along with LED taillights. Accenting the SUV is a new silver front bumper bar, chrome taillight trim, matte rearview mirrors, and 18-inch ‘Thalia’ wheels. Two new color choices are also available for 2013: Twilight Bronze metallic and Flaminco Red metallic.
On the inside, the seven-passenger XC90 now has new luxury accents such as sanded aluminum inlays, white instrumentation lighting, and a leather strap on the tailgate. Higher models receive standard sovereign hide soft leather seating surfaces, red wood inlays and gearshift knob, and executive floor mats. Available as an option for all trim levels is a red wood steering wheel, while rain sensor windshield wipers and headlight washers are now standard fare.
The R-Design model features sporty 19-inch ‘Ixion’ wheels along with sport-tuned suspension and steering. In addition, the higher trim model also includes an R-Design grille, leather seating surfaces, R-Design steering wheel, watch dial instruments, and floor mats.
The XC90 is powered by a 3.2-liter inline-six engine with 240-hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard with all-wheel drive available as an option.
Pricing for the base XC90 3.2 starts at $39,500 while the base R-Design model is $42,300. The top-of-the-line R-Design Platinum is $45,400 excluding an $895 destination charge.
