Ford's presence at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show can be summed up with these two letters: ST. After unveiling a juiced-up Focus, the Blue Oval strikes back with the Fiesta ST concept, a sporty, sinewy model inspired from the WRC contender.
Motivated by a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine producing 177 horsepower and 177 pounds-feet of torque, the car sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in under 7.0 seconds before reaching a top speed of about 218 km/h.
A 6-speed manual transmission distributes power to the front wheels while saving fuel and dropping CO2 emissions below 140 g/km.
The prospect of teaming the Focus ST with a high-performance Fiesta looks very promising for Ford, which would be able to attract thrill seekers among both compact and sub-compact car buyers.
With a model of this size, customers would get an actual miniature rocket for a reasonable price. Right now, only the MINI Cooper S fits that description.
There are no official plans to sell the Fiesta ST in North America yet. However, the upcoming arrival of the Focus ST has many people believing that it will follow soon.
